URL Parameters
Add the ad ID to your TikTok ads' destination URLs for precise click tracking and attribution.
Tapper attributes every captured click to the exact ad that produced it - but TikTok does not include the ad's ID in your destination URL by default. Add it once as a URL parameter using TikTok's dynamic macro, and attribution works automatically from then on.
Adding the ad_id Parameter
TikTok Ads Manager does not have a separate URL parameter builder - parameters are added directly to the ad's destination URL. TikTok replaces the __CID__ macro with the ad's ID every time the ad is served, so the exact same parameter text works for every ad.
Navigate to the Ad
In TikTok Ads Manager, open the Ad tab, hover over the ad you want to configure, and click Edit.
Find the Destination URL
Scroll to the ad's URL field - the destination page your ad sends visitors to.
Append the Parameter
Add ?ad_id=__CID__ to the end of the URL. If the URL already contains parameters, append &ad_id=__CID__ instead.
https://www.example.com/landing?ad_id=__CID__Enter the macro exactly as written - uppercase CID wrapped in double underscores. TikTok fills in the ad's ID automatically when the ad is served.
The appended text is identical for every ad, so you can copy the same ad_id=__CID__ suffix onto all of your ads, including new ads you create later. TikTok's bulk editing tools can apply the change to many ads at once.
Review and Publish
- Review - confirm the
ad_idparameter is set to__CID__on every ad you edited. - Publish - publish the changes to apply your modifications.
Tapper can now reference captured ad clicks to the correct ads in your TikTok campaigns.
