Connect Adobe Commerce (Magento)

Connect your Adobe Commerce or Magento store so Tapper Vantage learns the value of each order and ties it to the ad click behind it.

Adobe Commerce, formerly Magento, is the store platform many large online stores run on. Connecting it lets Tapper read your store's orders, so Vantage learns what each order was worth and which ad click it came from. To learn more about Vantage, see Tapper Vantage.

Tapper only reads. It asks for three view-only permissions and cannot create, change, refund or cancel anything in your store.

This page is for Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.4, including stores on Adobe Commerce cloud hosting. One integration covers every website and store view of the installation.

How the connection works

1
A shopper clicks your ad

The shopper clicks your ad on Google or Meta and lands on your store.

2
They buy in your store

Adobe Commerce saves the order with its order number.

3
The Tapper tag reports the purchase

On the order success page, the Tapper purchase tag sends the order number, the value and the currency.

4
Tapper reads the order

Every five minutes, Tapper reads the orders changed since its last read through your Tapper integration, with their refunds and cancellations.

5
Tapper joins the two by order number

The email is hashed the moment it arrives. The order is matched to the visit and the ad click behind it, and its value is worked out without VAT and shipping, net of refunds.

6
The order value goes to your ad account

Tapper sends the order's value to the ad account the click came from, and restates it when the order is refunded or cancelled.

The integration gives Tapper every order, with its tax, refunds and cancellations. The tag ties each order to the ad click that brought the shopper, which Adobe Commerce does not record. The order number joins the two, so it must be identical in both, with the same characters, prefix and zeros.

Before you start

  • In Adobe Commerce, you need an Admin user who can create integrations.
  • In Tapper, you need the Owner or Admin role, with two-step sign-in, to connect, test, change or disconnect your store.
  • Your order success page should send the order number and the currency to the Tapper purchase tag. See Install the conversion script.

Create an integration for Tapper

Do this in Adobe Commerce Admin.

1
Add an integration

Open System > Extensions > Integrations and click Add New Integration.

2
Name it

Enter the name Tapper. Leave the callback URL and the identity link URL empty, and enter your own Admin password to confirm.

3
Choose the permissions

Open the API tab and set Resource Access to Custom. Tick Sales > Operations > Orders > Actions > View. Tick Customers, then untick All Customers, Now Online and Customer Groups under it. Tick Stores > Settings > All Stores.

4
Activate it

Save, then click Activate next to Tapper in the list, and click Allow.

5
Copy the four values

Copy the consumer key, the consumer secret, the access token and the access token secret.

Leave Credit Memos and Invoices unticked. Those permissions also allow refunds, captures and voids, and Tapper reads refunds from the order itself. You do not need to allow OAuth access tokens as standalone bearer tokens, because Tapper signs every request with OAuth 1.0a.

Connect from Tapper

1
Open Adobe Commerce

In Tapper, open Setup > Data sources in the sidebar. Adobe Commerce is in the Sales group. If your workspace has more than one protected entity, first pick the one your store belongs to in the switcher under the workspace name.

2
Enter your details

Click Connect and enter your store address, for example https://www.example.com, and the four values from your integration. Tapper stores both secrets encrypted and never shows them again.

3
Test the connection

Click Test connection. Tapper reads your store list, one order and one customer. A failed test says why in plain words, for example a wrong key, a missing permission or a request blocked by your firewall.

4
Choose your store views

After a passing test, your store views appear with their currency and country. All of them are read unless you switch one off.

Send the order number from the purchase tag

The Tapper purchase tag on your order success page must send the order value, its currency and the Adobe Commerce order number exactly as Admin shows it. A store that sells in more than one currency must always send the currency.

With the Tapper Conversion Script template in Google Tag Manager, map these fields.

Template fieldData layer path
Order Valueecommerce.value
Currencyecommerce.currency
Transaction IDecommerce.transaction_id

If you call the tag in code, pass the value as a number and the order number as text.

window.tapper.push(1099.00, 'AED', '000012345');

Let the tag reach Tapper

If your store sends a Content Security Policy, add these addresses to connect-src, next to the Tapper addresses already listed there.

https://protect.tapper.ai https://fingerprint.tapper.ai

Without them, the browser blocks the tag's purchase report, and Tapper cannot tie orders to ad clicks.

If your firewall blocks Tapper

Stores on Adobe Commerce cloud hosting sit behind a Fastly firewall that can block server requests it does not know. If the test reports a block, allow the Tapper server addresses shown on the connect page.

Save click IDs on orders

This step is optional. If your developers save the ad click IDs on each order as custom order attributes, Tapper reads them too and ties orders to clicks even when the browser could not report the purchase. The click IDs are gclid, gbraid, wbraid, fbclid, ttclid and the Tapper visitor ID. Enter the attribute codes on the connect page.

What Tapper reads

DataWhat
OrdersOrder number, store view, state, order dates, currency, order total, tax, shipping and discount.
Refunds and cancellationsThe refunded and cancelled amounts on each order.
Order linesProduct, quantity and price.
CustomersCustomer ID, the email address, the date the account was created and the customer group.

The email is hashed the moment it arrives. The original address is never stored: not in our database, not in logs, not in our warehouse.

Tapper never requests the customer's name, billing or shipping address, phone number, IP address, payment details or order comments.

Keeping it in sync

Tapper first reads up to 24 months of order history, then every five minutes reads the orders changed since its last read, including refunds and cancellations. To change which store views Tapper reads, switch them on or off on the connect page.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect on the Adobe Commerce tab. Tapper deletes the stored secrets and stops reading. To end the access on your store's side too, delete the Tapper integration in Admin, or click Reauthorize to replace its token.
