Connect Snapchat Ads

Connect your Snapchat ad accounts for Tapper Lift by signing in to Snapchat as a separate user with the Data Analyst role. Tapper reads the accounts and changes nothing in Snapchat.

Snapchat Ads accounts connect for Tapper Lift only, so the Snapchat Ads row shows on workspaces that have Lift.

Before you start

  • You need the Owner or Admin role in the workspace. Anyone else sees: Only a workspace owner or admin can connect an account. Ask one of them to connect it for you. See Settings for what each role can do.
  • In Snapchat Business Manager, invite a separate user for Tapper, for example a shared team address.
  • Give that user the Data Analyst role on the ad accounts to connect. Data Analyst can read reports and cannot change anything.
  • When you connect, sign in to Snapchat as that user. If Snapchat signs you in as yourself, log out of Snapchat first.

Connect an account

1
Open the connect page

In the sidebar, open Setup, then Ad accounts, and click Add ad account. The Add an account page opens. If your workspace has more than one protected entity, first pick the one the accounts belong to with the switcher under the workspace name. When you set up a new workspace, the Connect an ad account step has the same Snapchat Ads row.

2
Go to Snapchat

On the Snapchat Ads row, click Connect Snapchat. The Before you connect Snapchat dialog repeats the three Snapchat steps above. Click Continue to Snapchat, and Snapchat opens in the same tab.

3
Sign in as the Data Analyst user

Sign in to Snapchat as the user you invited and allow access. Snapchat then sends you back to Tapper.

4
Pick the organization

Under Organisation, pick the organization that holds the ad accounts. Each organization shows how many ad accounts the user can see in it. When the user sees only one organization, Tapper picks it for you.

5
Tick the accounts

Tapper lists every ad account the user can see in that organization, paused ones too. Tick the accounts and click Connect, or Connect 3 accounts when you tick three. An account where the user's role can make changes shows a note saying so: you can still connect it, but a Data Analyst user is safer.

6
Check the result

Each account that connected shows how many campaigns and ad sets it has, and what it spent yesterday in its own currency and time zone. If Tapper cannot read an account right away, its line says why, and the account stays connected. Click Done.

What connecting does

  • Tapper asks Snapchat for one permission, snapchat-marketing-api. That permission lets an app read and write, so the Data Analyst role is what keeps Tapper's access read only.
  • Every request Tapper sends to Snapchat's Ads API is a read. Connecting creates nothing in Snapchat: no tracking template, audience, exclusion or click tracker.
  • Tapper's access to the accounts is that of the user you signed in with. If that user, or its role on an account, is removed in Snapchat, Tapper can no longer read that account.
  • The access Snapchat gives Tapper is stored encrypted.

Accounts in other workspaces, and disconnecting

  • An ad account that is connected in another Tapper workspace cannot be connected here. If you tick one, Tapper connects none of the accounts you ticked and says: This ad account is connected to another Tapper workspace. Contact Tapper support to move it. To connect the others, untick it and click Connect.
  • An account that is connected to another protected entity of your workspace moves to this one when you connect it here.
  • Only Tapper can disconnect an ad account. Contact your Tapper team.
