Invalid traffic audience
Set up Tapper Block on TikTok Ads, then build the audience of invalid visitors in TikTok Ads Manager from the event Tapper sends through your TikTok Pixel.
On TikTok Ads, Tapper Block finds the invalid visitors your ads bring to your website and sends the event TAPPER_INVALID_TRAFFIC for each one through your TikTok Pixel. The audience on this page collects the visitors behind that event. TikTok only lets you build an audience from a custom event in TikTok Ads Manager, so this step is yours. It takes about two minutes.
Set up Block on TikTok Ads
Install the TikTok Pixel on your website. On a workspace with Block, each TikTok ad account needs one: an account without one does not connect. Tapper names the account, says it has no TikTok Pixel, and asks you to install the pixel on your website, then connect the account again.
Connect each account once: see Connect TikTok Ads. On a workspace with Block, connecting is what sets up the event Tapper sends through your pixel.
Add the Tapper monitoring script to your website, on the same pages as your TikTok Pixel: see Install the monitoring script. It is what finds the invalid visitors.
Create the audience in TikTok Ads Manager, as described below.
Create the audience
In TikTok Ads Manager, open Tools and choose Audiences.
Click Create Audience, choose Custom Audience, then select Website Traffic.
Under People who've carried out the following actions, select TAPPER_INVALID_TRAFFIC and set the time period to in the past 90 days.
Under Through the following pixels, select the pixel installed on your website. Leave URL and Parameter empty, because a filter there would leave visitors out. Do not add an exclusion.
Auto-refresh is on by default. Leave it on, so TikTok adds new invalid visitors every day. TikTok cannot switch auto-refresh on later: an audience made with it off stops updating, and you would have to create a new one.
Name the audience Tapper - Invalid Traffic Audience and click Confirm.
In TikTok Ads Manager, open Tools and choose Audiences, find the audience you just made in the list and copy its ID. Send the ID to your Tapper team, or email it to support@tapper.ai. We record it with your TikTok ad account in Tapper and confirm when that is done.
The audience now fills with the invalid visitors Tapper finds on your site.
If something looks wrong
Check that the Tapper monitoring script and your TikTok Pixel are both on your website, and that the TikTok ad account is connected to Tapper. If the event is still missing, contact us before you go on: we check that your site is sending it.
When you connect an account on a workspace with Block, Tapper creates an audience with this name in it. Leave that one as it is and do not use it in your ad groups: it is not the audience of invalid visitors. Send us the ID of the one you just made.
TikTok needs at least 1,000 matched people in a Custom Audience before it can be used in an ad group. On a site with little invalid traffic, that can take a while.
